Oregon Fall Festivals October 2013 will review several outstanding jazz, art, harvest and children’s festivals around the state.
Halloween and harvests sharpen the hazy events of early fall into full focus in Oregon. October is prime time for many Oregon festivals and events. Cultural Oregon shares in this post, some of the most enjoyable October festivals and October events the month offers.
Medford Jazz Festival October
Back in the day the first Medford Jazz Jubilee, the original name of the Medford Jazz Festival featured only eight Dixieland bands. While the name has changed, the devotion community, music, worldwide musicians and joyfulness of the truest of all American arts – Dixieland music has not. The number of participating bands has expanded greatly and the festival has added many programs directed at young people.
Medford Jazz Festival Fans have the opportunity to dance to great music, and the dance area has lots of seating for those who want to hear the best music and watch folks dance everything from the frenetic Jump-jive to the stately Waltz. Every music venue has a dance floor! There is even a dance competition for kids.
This year twenty acts will be performing and while all are veterans, everyone is watching out for the Lena Prima Band, Lena is the daughter of the world famous jazz musician Louie Prima.
Affordable tickets and additional information can be obtained here.
Art Harvest Studio Tour of Yamhill County
October in Yamhill County is breathtaking, and the Art Harvest Studio Tour is a great way to see outstanding fall foliage while visiting an Oregon county with a thriving and dedicated art community. This is the 20th year for the Art Studio Tour and there are twenty participating artists this year. In honor of the twentieth anniversary of this event, artists have included the number 20 in some of their work – some discretely and others boldly. It might be fun for you to try and find the number in as many works as you can.
A listing of artists and their biographies as well as examples of work is available here.
The artists will be available to talk with visitors about their work, techniques and other art related topics. A map for participating artists is here. For additional information call the Arts Alliance Council of Yamhill County at 503 538-1535.

Annual Yachats Village Mushroom Festival October
Yachats is a wonderful town on the Oregon coast. For the past 12 years they have hosted the Annual Yachats Village Mushroom Festival, however, for reasons unknown to Cultural Oregon they insisted on calling last year’s event the Annual Fungi Fest.
We don’t know about you, but to Cultural Oregon mushroom sounds – well – far more palatable. Anyway the Fest has tons of free and many fee events that can be enjoyed. Free events include mushroom walks and lectures. Other features of the festival are: Culinary mushroom markets, Sample dishes featuring mushrooms from local restaurants, Live music, Lectures, Wine tasting

Fazio Farms Corn Maze, Fall Event until October 31st
Just a short drive from downtown Portland is Fazio Farm Corn Maze (Map). They have an amazing corn maze that covers more than six acres. Corn is double planted so once inside the maze you cannot see out and only your skill and wits will get you through.

Besides the corn maze at Fazio other things do include: Petting Zoo, 22 Foot Bouncy Slide, Ferris wheel, Hay Pyramid, Gourd Painting and Pony Rides.
Sunday through Thursday they are open 10am to 8 pm and Friday and Saturday nights they are open until 10 PM so you can try your luck in the maze in the dark. Fazio Farms suggests that you bring your phone.
