Oregon loves films, in fact, Oregon loves movies so much that all year long you can find a festival devoted to them. October is no different with several festivals devoted to independent films taking place. So, action, rolling!

Oregon Film Festivals Line – Up #1

BendFilm Fest October

The 2012 BendFilm Fest is the ninth annual independent film festival held by BendFilm Fest, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving independent filmmakers an outlet to show case their creativity while reaching a substantial audience.

Just like the “Oscars” awards are given for Best Acting, Best Short, Best Animation, Best of Show and more. The Bend Film Fest has been name one of the 10 best independent film festivals by Liveabiliy.com, an online resource that scores many aspects of different cities and towns.

Oregon Film Festival #2

Eugene Film Festival  October

The Eugene Film Festival, sometimes called the EIFF is top tier venue for independent filmmakers to have their works seen and network with others in the industry. Marketing material for the festival states:

“Filmmakers are provided with unparalleled opportunities to mix, schmooze, and build lasting relationships with people who do make a difference. Beginning with ….. this is a festival about connecting filmmakers, mentors and audiences.”

There are many workshops and roundtables for industry members to participate and there is also ample opportunity for audience members to talk with those in the industry. It’s also a great place for film buffs to see independent filmmaker greats and their works. National Public Radio (NPR) says this film festival is not to be missed. Categories include:

  • Animation
  • Young Audience
  • Art/Experimental
  • Making of, Behind the Scenes
  • Narrative

The films will be shown at the Regal Cinemas, Valley River Center in Bend, Oregon. (Map) The schedule of films will be posted shortly on the EIFF site where tickets are already on sale for a single show or a full pass.

Oregon Film Festival #3

Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival October

This year will be the first time that Mt. Hood Independent Film Festival will be held. It is presented by the Colombia Center for the Arts which will also be a venue for some of the dozens of film that will be shown.

Other venues include:  Springhouse Cellars, Andrews Skylight Theater, To be Announced

There will be over 150 films shown over the festivals three days. Filmmakers from the United States and around the world will be participating.

Mt. Hood is only a short distance from Portland. It is renowned for its recreational and cultural opportunities. This film festival, scheduled to be an annual affair will bring visitors to Mt. Hood.

Scheduling a vacation on Mt. Hood to enjoy some wonderful outdoor recreation while also visiting what promises to be a vibrant and exciting festival is a great idea. There is plenty of lodging from campsites to luxury resorts along with dining of all kinds for all budgets. This is an opportunity to be in on the beginning of a great annual festival and enjoy some of Oregon’s premier outdoor recreation.
